Of Finding a New Home

You know what they say about how love can move mountains? Well, I guess its more than just mountains, as I found myself sitting in an almost 30 hour plane ride heading north.

A few months back, I finally moved to Tromsø, to be physically connected with my then fiance, now called husband. It was a long journey finding home and I’m just glad I made it.

Tromsø is a city located in the northernmost part of Norway. It is considered to be the Paris of the North because of how people are surprisingly fashionably conscious here, as per told by the southerners visiting back in the days.

Tromsø houses the northernmost university of Scandinavia which constitutes greatly to the city’s growing population. It’s not only the population that is growing here though, as landscapes and natural attractions are huge here too. Talk about lakes, forests, mountains and fjords; name it, Tromsø has it. It is certainly a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. It is as well; not to mention, one of the perfect places to see the amazing Northern Lights. It is by far the most beautiful phenomenon I have ever encountered and I graciously thank God for it.

Tromsø is geographically located in the Arctic Circle which only means that the weather condition here is extreme. We have the round the clock sun in the summer to which we call the midnight sun and there is this thing called the polar nights, wherein we only get to see a glimpse of light a few hours a day.

My Winter Adventure

So, Im not really adventurous by nature but Ive been to a couple of good ones, enough to make me be proud of myself.

Right before I left Europe, I went on a daring adventure to travel up north – Tromsø, Norway to be exact. It was Winter time which means, ice cold weather and snow were everywhere. It was the first time I have seen such amount of snow…knee-highed thick and mountains covered with crystal iced candy were overwhelming for someone from the tropics like me. I couldn’t even believe I enjoyed it myself.

So, let me give you a brief history of my relationship with snow…

It was one of the reasons why I wanted to go to Europe; to see it, to touch it, to experience it. But it got me quite disappointed when I had my first encounter with it which happened on the first week of my stay in NL. But really, who wouldn’t? There I was, 3rd day in a cold country, already in March yet SNOW STORM came. Seriously? It wasn’t funny at all. It was too cold for me to handle. Thus, I started hating it and moving forward; things added as snow in this region is gay snow – the slush kind, that is. So instead of loving it like how I imagined it, I kinda didn’t. That was the kind of snow I knew for the last 3 years; slushy and wet. But things changed when I decided to go up north. There, it was soft, thick and safe enough to lay around on. So, there. I started to love it again. I enjoyed playing with it so much even when my legs couldn’t move from one place to another because it was too thick.

Anyhow, in my journey to the Northern Norway, I managed to hop on a snowmobile and travelled up to the mountains which were a thousand meter above sea level and HELL did I get  an adventure of a lifetime! Together with 3 other Norwegians, we drove around one mountain from another, enjoying the scenery like it was our playground. We made a few stops to enjoy the view, overlooking the beautiful ocean and fjords. We even stopped for a picnic and grilled some sausages and had some coffee to warm us up in the freezing cold. My hands and feet were definitely numb to coldness but it didn’t bother me at all. The highlight of that trip though was me falling off the snowmobile, it having flipped over and me jumping off it and then me not being anxious at all since I was all giddy and happy laying on a bed of white flakes from heaven!
